Structured Help for Intense Emotions

Borderline personality disorder makes emotions feel bigger than they should; a small comment turns into hours of distress, and a minor conflict feels like the end of a relationship. It’s exhausting for you and confusing for the people around you, and it rarely gets better without specific, structured treatment.

Online BPD treatment in Massachusetts at CFF Medical & Behavioral Health centers on Dialectical Behavior Therapy, the treatment with the strongest evidence for BPD, combined with medication management for co-occurring symptoms. Every appointment happens on secure video, with no travel required anywhere in the state.

You book an appointment, log in from your phone or computer, and talk to a licensed provider about your emotional patterns, relationships, and history in detail. No waiting room, no half-day off work. Whether you’re in Boston, Worcester, Springfield, or a town without a specialist nearby, the appointment works the same way.

If your emotions feel harder to manage than they should, or relationships keep following the same painful pattern, an evaluation can bring clarity.

Common Signs It's Time to Seek BPD Treatment

  • Your emotions shift quickly and intensely, from fine to furious or devastated within minutes
  • You feel real panic at the idea of someone leaving or pulling away from you
  • Your relationships tend to swing between idealizing someone and feeling let down by them
  • You’ve engaged in impulsive behavior, spending, driving, substance use that you regretted afterward
  • You struggle with a chronic sense of emptiness that doesn’t go away between episodes
  • You’ve been told you’re “too intense” or “too much” by people close to you
  • A previous diagnosis of anxiety or depression alone hasn’t explained the full picture
  • You’ve had thoughts of self-harm during periods of emotional crisis
  • You often feel unsure of who you are, with your sense of identity shifting depending on who you’re around

If two or more of these sound familiar, a full evaluation is the fastest way to get an accurate diagnosis.

What BPD Actually Looks Like

Fear of Abandonment

Real or imagined signs that someone is pulling away trigger intense fear, sometimes leading to actions meant to prevent it that push people further away instead.

Unstable Relationships

Relationships often swing between extremes, someone seems perfect one day and disappointing the next, with little middle ground in between.

Emotional Intensity

Emotions arrive faster and stronger than they do for most people, and take longer to settle back down once triggered.

Impulsive Behavior

Spending, substance use, reckless driving, or other impulsive actions often happen during periods of high emotional distress.

Chronic Emptiness

A persistent, hard-to-describe sense of feeling hollow or disconnected, even when things in life are going well.

Identity Instability

A sense of self that shifts depending on the relationship or situation you’re in, making it hard to answer basic questions about your own values or goals.

How We Treat BPD

At CFF Medical & Behavioral Health, treatment centers on skills you can actually use, not just insight into what’s happening.

Accurate Diagnosis First

A one-hour evaluation maps your emotional patterns and history to confirm a BPD diagnosis and rule out conditions that can look similar.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

DBT teaches specific skills for managing intense emotions, tolerating distress, and improving relationships, the treatment with the most research behind it for BPD.

Medication for Co-Occurring Symptoms

Medication isn’t the primary treatment for BPD, but it can help manage related symptoms like anxiety, depression, or mood instability, reviewed at every follow-up.

Crisis Planning Before You Need It

We build a specific plan for moments of emotional crisis, so you have concrete steps to take instead of scrambling in the moment.

Something Specific to Practice Between Visits

Every appointment ends with a skill or exercise to try before the next one, so progress happens between sessions, not just during them.

Coordinated With Your Other Providers

If you’re seeing a therapist or primary care doctor, we coordinate directly with them when you authorize it, so your care fits together.
